The new Geo. Wiedemann Brewing Co. is pleased to announce that it has been selected as the title sponsor of Newport’s Oktoberfest, to be held Sept. 27-29. Wiedemann’s Newport Oktoberfest is a three-day celebration that will feature fine beers from the Newport-based beer company, along with authentic German food, music, dancing, and entertainment.
The event will take place under a large Munich-style tent on Newport’s riverfront. The sponsorship follows the recent revival of the more-than-140-year-old Wiedemann beer brand. Wiedemann’s was relaunched in its hometown of Newport last summer and is now available at fine dining and drinking establishments throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Newport Oktoberfest will feature locally brewed Wiedemann’s Oktoberfest beer, a fine Bavarian-style Marzen beer made with only the classic ingredients -- malted barley, aromatic hops, German lager yeast and water.
The festival is the area’s most authentic Oktoberfest, featuring a super-size fest tent on Riverboat Row with a spacious dance floor and plenty of comfortable seating in any kind of weather. It’s a relaxing atmosphere with German music, German food vendors, and lots of great beer.
Professional model Brittany Everitt will be at the festival on Saturday for pictures and autographs. The first 200 people who visit the Wiedemann booth and like the Wiedemann Facebook page will receive autographed collectible posters of Brittany as the new “WiedieGirl” representing Wiedemann’s Oktoberfest.
“My wife Betsy and I decided to revive Weidemann’s because it was a huge part of Northern Kentucky’s brewing heritage, and we wanted to make the kind of beer that was enjoyed for generations before us,” says Jon Newberry, co-owner of Wiedemann. “We’re excited to be sponsoring Wiedemann’s Newport Oktoberfest and introducing our Oktoberfest beer. It’s everything the Wiedemann brand has stood for since 1870 and a beer George Wiedemann would be proud to have his name on.”
The festival hours are 5 to 11 p.m. on Friday; noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday; and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Rain or shine on Riverboat Row at Newport on the Levee. Free admission.
